Michigan Wheat Program Summer Field Day

Come to the Michigan Wheat Program’s Summer Field Day for the latest in wheat research by Michigan State University (MSU) scientists. The program will begin with a continental breakfast followed by wagon tours of the research plots at the MSU Plant Pathology Research Center. MSU AgBioResearch scientists Martin Chilvers, Eric Olson, Frances Trail, Christy Sprague and Kurt Steinke, along with fellow MSU researchers Martin Nagelkirk and Beth Brisco, will present their findings on wheat diseases, high performance wheat breeding, wheat scab, weed control, wheat fertilization and nutrient management. Lunch is included. Guests are encouraged to bring wheat samples that require diagnosis for disease or injury to Jan Byrne of the MSU Plant Diagnostic Laboratory during both breakfast and lunch. After Lunch, Bruce Sutherland of Michigan Ag Commodities will give a market outlook presentaton, Jody Pollok-Newsom of the Michigan Wheat Program will discuss changes in risk management crop insurance and Martin Nagelkirk of MSU Extension will speak on the upcoming harvest. Following the event, maps will be provided to the variety trial performance sites at the Mason farm hosted by Eric Olson.
