Time: 8:15 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Bavarian Inn Lodge, 1 Covered Bridge Lane, Frankenmuth, MI 48734
The 2015 annual Winter Grower Meeting of the Michigan Wheat Program will reflect the program’s top priorities: research to improve yields and profitability for red and white winter wheat farmers in Michigan. The highlight of the day-long conference will be three presentations from Peter Johnson, Canadian wheat researcher and high-management wheat specialist. His presentations are titled: ‘High-Yield Wheat: Setting the Stage,’ ‘Management for High Yields,’ and ‘Fine-Tuning Wheat: Other Options.’
Also speaking will be MSU AgBioResearch scientists Christy Sprague, on wheat weed issues, Kurt Steinke, on wheat nutrient trials, and Bruno Basso, on unmanned aerial imagery. Several speakers on the public policy issues that affect Michigan wheat growers will also feature. US Senator Debbie Stabenow (invited) and Joe Schultz of the US Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee will provide an update on the Farm Bill, Alex Offerdahl of Watts and Associates will speak regarding a Michigan-led and requested RMA Crop Insurance Adjustment for 2016 and Jim Palmer, CEO of the National Association of Wheat Growers, will speak on the national status of the wheat industry.
This year’s conference will also feature, for the first time, a trade show with 15 different companies and organizations.
There is no cost to attend the program, although advance registration is required to ensure meal counts, handouts and seating.
